A revamped Packers offensive line faces its biggest test since the Browns with Denver's havoc defense
The last time Green Bay faced a pass rush this ferocious, Jordan Love had one of the worst games of his season and pass protection was a driving factor. They can't have a repeat performance.
The good news for the Green Bay Packers is that Myles Garrett doesn’t play for the Denver Broncos. The bad news is this is the best pass rush the 9-3-1 Packers will have faced since that brutal loss in Cleveland, where Love dealt with constant pressure. The Broncos defense can rush with four, or blitz offenses to pieces, or force quarterbacks to hold the ball with sticky man coverage that leads to pressures and sacks.
TLDR: They’re scary as hell.
Vance Joseph’s defense enters Sunday’s national television matchup fourth in pressure rate according to Next Gen Stats, just tenths of a percent ahead of the aforementioned Browns. And while the Denver front lacks a field-tilter on the level of Garrett, the Packers may be the only team in the NFL that can claim it has one to match.
Speaking of Micah Parsons, Nik Bonitto currently boasts 12.5 sacks, the same as Parsons. Jonathan Cooper matches Rashan Gary with 7.5. They create sacks better than any team in the league, leading the NFL in sack percentage (edging out the Browns by hundreds of a percentage point).
When the Packers offense has struggled, it’s been against teams that can rush effectively with four. Jordan Love has been the best quarterback in the NFL when blitzed this season, but he’s also been tops from a clean pocket, leaving teams that can’t rush with four wondering where to turn for answers.
Denver has them with their four-man pass rush.
