The Green Bay Packers might not have made a deal before the trade deadline, but they still have a chance to add a notable veteran to their roster. On Thursday, the team hosted free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. for an official visit.

The news comes after weeks of speculation that Samuel could wind up in Green Bay. The former second-round pick spent four years with the Los Angeles Chargers, serving as one of the preferred starting cornerbacks in each of those seasons. His medical team eventually determined that he required a spinal fusion. Samuel underwent the procedure in April, effectively gutting any chance of landing a contract during the height of free agency.
