Evan Williams keys the Packers' ability to stop the run against the Chicago Bears
It's not just the splash interceptions for the former Day 3 safety. Evan Williams has become one of the best run-defending defensive backs in the NFL and the Packers will need him in Week 14.
The Chicago Bears did to the Philadelphia Eagles what Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers tried to do: run it down those sandwich lovers’ throats. Ben Johnson found parts of his bag he didn’t even know existed, the offensive line dominated, and the Bears saw two running backs go over 100 yards against a front that features Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. But it won’t be a 320-pound savior for Jeff Hafley. It’s their 200-pound second-year safety with the same name as a bourbon brand.

Heading into Thanksgiving, the Packers’ defense led the NFL in defending outside runs. They backed up that ranking by turning Sonic and Knuckles into regular old hedgehogs, allowing 100 yards, but on 28 carries. Green Bay’s team speed and instinctive linebacker play spearhead this team’s efforts to stop the myriad outside runs teams try to run.

Chicago has been crushing team with traditional outside zone, but they’re also bringing plenty of wrinkles. They use motion well to create angles, pull guards, and even bust out old school trap plays.
When Johnson called the offense in Detroit, the Lions had the most diverse, explosive run game in the NFL. Now, that title belongs to the Bears. The run game travels.
