The Packers' 2025 roster is weirder than you think

In just over two years, the Packers' roster has changed more dramatically than most realize, and even more changes will come in the near future.

Starting Monday, The Leap will begin its annual ranking of the Green Bay Packers' 90-man roster. This year marks the fourth time Peter and I have ranked the entire roster for this publication, though both of us contributed to a version of this exercise for several years prior at previous outlets.

As in the past, we will order the players based on their abilities relative to their position rather than the value of their position. We do so to prioritize the "best" players, not necessarily the ones who offer the "most value." Accordingly, a starting quarterback won't automatically finish at or near the top of the list, opening the door for more interesting and compelling conversations about the personnel.

In advance of the big reveal, let's dive into some peculiarities of the Packers' current roster.

Over 84% of Jordan Love's current teammates arrived in Green Bay after he became the full-time starting QB

When the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers shortly before the 2023 NFL Draft, it made official what the team had long intended: moving forward with Jordan Love as the new starting quarterback. At that moment, Love had three seasons under his belt but had played only 157 total snaps. Even so, general manager Brian Gutekunst had enough conviction in the young signal-caller to part ways with a four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer in order to give him a shot.

That move happened just over two years ago, and the Packers have radically reshaped their roster in the time since, perhaps even more than many realize. As of this writing, over 84% of Love's current teammates joined the roster after he succeeded Rodgers as QB1.

The complete list of Love's current teammates who arrived before 2023:

1. Kenny Clark

2. Romeo Doubs

3. Kingsley Enagbare

4. Rashan Gary

5. Elgton Jenkins

6. Isaiah McDuffie

7. Bo Melton

8. Keisean Nixon

9. Sean Rhyan

10. Zach Tom

11. Quay Walker

12. Rasheed Walker

13. Christian Watson

14. Devonte Wyatt

Notably, 10 of those 14 players joined Green Bay in 2022, and half of those failed to start more than 1 game or play at least 25% of snaps on their respective side of the ball that season. In essence, the Packers retain only nine players who held meaningful roles before Love's ascension.

Those figures help illustrate how quickly personnel can turn over in the NFL. While the Packers had a Super Bowl-contending roster in the early years of Love's tenure, little of that group remains entering 2025. And that doesn't mean the talent has dipped as Green Bay still has one of the strongest overall rosters in the league.
