The Packers can't be taken seriously until Matt LaFleur gets serious

Matt LaFleur's game plan for the Eagles didn't work. More damningly, he didn't seem interested in shifting tactics during the game, dooming the Packers to their second straight loss.

The Green Bay Packers had a difficult task on their hands in Week 10. Their opponents, the defending-champion Philadelphia Eagles, had just come off a bye week that allowed for nearly all of their key injured players to recover. Meanwhile, Green Bay would have to make do without two of its top pass catchers, Tucker Kraft and Matthew Golden.

In order to compete, the Packers had to avoid the biggest mistakes from the previous week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers: a conservative offensive game plan and committing turnovers deep in enemy territory.

The Packers failed on both counts Monday night, losing 10-7 in perhaps their most deflating outing of the season thus far.

Execution errors riddled the performance. An avoidable 11-yard sack and a botched handoff stymied Green Bay’s first two possessions. When the Packers finally entered scoring position, Jordan Love fumbled while attempting to dirt the ball at the feet of Josh Jacobs. Penalties wiped out a fourth-and-1 attempt and a subsequent 22-yard explosive play that would have set up the offense deep in the red zone. Multiple receivers dropped passes, including on back-to-back incompletions that ended the team’s first drive of the second half.

Yet, the Packers could have still overcome those hurdles. The defense met the moment, limiting the Eagles to only 10 points and their worst offensive success rate in a regular-season game with Jalen Hurts at quarterback and Nick Sirianni as head coach. Sirianni gave Green Bay plenty of help too, completely mismanaging the fourth quarter and gifting his opponent with multiple extra possessions.

However, none of that ultimately mattered due to the offensive game plan that head coach Matt LaFleur and his staff put together.
