The Packers have options ahead of the trade deadline
The NFL trade deadline arrives in less than two weeks. The Packers haven't historically played an active role during this period. However, they've bucked other trends this year.
Only 12 days remain before the NFL trade deadline. While this period has historically generated more headlines than swaps, recent years have seen significantly more activity. Just last season, 14 trades went down during the two weeks before the deadline. That figure doesn’t even include moves for Davante Adams of Amari Cooper, transactions that went down a little earlier in October.
Whether the 2025 deadline produces as much activity remains to be seen. However, the conditions point to plenty of trade buzz in the coming days. Currently, more than half the league has a non-losing record, meaning more decision-makers have motivation to bolster their rosters for a playoff push.
And though that might sound like a reason not to part with players, teams have still shown a willingness to make deals. Several of the deadline trades last year involved a team that went on to qualify for the postseason sending away a player. That includes the Green Bay Packers’ exchange of pass rusher Preston Smith for a seventh-round draft pick.
While general manager Brian Gutekunst consummated the biggest move of 2025 -- the blockbuster trade that brought All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to Green Bay -- he could still have an active pre-deadline period. Indeed, hints that the Packers will make news on the transaction front have already surfaced.
