The Packers will have to get luck to find their "type" at cornerback in this draft

It's a small, skinny draft class at cornerback in 2026, which means Brian Gutekunst may have to reach to find a guy they like to bolster the position.

There are needs and then there is cornerback for the Green Bay Packers. In 2026, Green Bay could stand to upgrade with Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon the incumbent starters. But in 2027, the only cornerback on the roster under contract is newly-signed Benjamin St-Juste who has yet to play a snap in Green Bay.

They have to draft a cornerback in this draft. At least one. Probably more.

But the Packers are very particular about the kinds of cornerbacks they draft. That’s been true going back through Ted Thompson and all the way to Ron Wolf. They want big/strong/fast and they are uncompromising about that. Green Bay has not drafted a cornerback at sub-190 pounds since Terrell Buckley back in 1992.

Sorry fellas, size matters.

But the athleticism matters too. Brian Gutekunst has not taken a player in the top 50 of a draft without a complete athletic profile. The only player in the top 100 he’s taken with no athletic profile was Josh Myers in 2021, which was a COVID-truncated draft process.
