The Urban Meyer disaster could pull Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett back to Jacksonville
After firing Urban Meyer, the Jaguars will soon begin searching for a full-time replacement. That pursuit could lead them to Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett who spent four years in Jacksonville.
In a remarkable fall from grace, the Jacksonville Jaguars fired first-year head coach Urban Meyer this week. The move, which came after a litany of negative reports regarding his treatment of players and assistants, concludes one of the weirdest coaching tenures in the sport's recent history.
Meyer finishes his Jacksonville tenure with fewer NFL wins than Bobby Petrino, the last coach not to finish his first season with a team. But while Petrino resigned to take another job, Meyer became the first head coach since Pete McCulley to receive a pink slip during his inaugural year with a team. For a decorated coach with multiple collegiate national titles on his mantle, his short time in the NFL represents nothing short of a legacy-tarnishing disaster.
But while the fallout from Meyer's dismissal most immediately affects Jacksonville, it will soon reach beyond those borders as the team begins the search for its next head coach. That pursuit could well include Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, a former Jaguars assistant coach.
