What's really going on with the Packers' cornerbacks?

The Packers thought Nate Hobbs would help the secondary replace Jaire Alexander. But seven games into the season, they still don't seem to know what they want to do with their corners.

The Green Bay Packers made some notable changes to their defense this past offseason. Not only did the front office make the blockbuster move to acquire All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons, but the team parted ways with Jaire Alexander, the longtime starting cornerback who had struggled to stay on the field in recent years.

Two months into the season, both decisions appear wise. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Parsons leads all players with 44 pressures despite seeing double-teams on 22.4% of snaps and chips on 20.2% of snaps. He has unquestionably transformed the Packers defense, a unit that comfortably ranks top 10 by DVOA.

Meanwhile, the knee issues that cost Alexander double-digit games in 2024 resurfaced soon after he joined the Baltimore Ravens. He sat out most of training camp as a result and never really found his footing thereafter. To date, Alexander has managed to play in just two games for his new team, including multiple healthy scratches. It doesn’t seem he will reclaim the field-tilting form that made him a star in Green Bay.

Neither move came in a vacuum. The Parsons addition shifted Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, and the rest of the defensive ends into different roles. That reorientation has lifted the play of the entire defensive front and positioned the group for a potential Super Bowl run.

The situation looks a little different on the back end, however. While Alexander might not have provided much help at this stage of his career, the Packers have yet to solidify a plan for their cornerbacks.
