Brian Gutekunst doens’t get to go shopping in the transfer portal for college’s biggest stars. Maybe that would be a better model: make it part of the salary cap and allow teams like the Patriots to give college players contracts instead of overpaying in free agency. But for now, that’s not how the system works. Gutey has to take what falls his way.

Instead, let’s imagine the best-case scenario for the Packers, they find players at need positions who fit them perfectly. And to make it interesting, let’s also assume there’s at least a chance they could be around when Green Bay picks (so, no Travis Hunters on the list).

Pass rusher — Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon

At nearly every press availability this offseason, Gutekunst mentioned World Theory, the idea that it was rare to find outsized men in the world capable of moving well on a football field.

“God only made so many,” Ted Thompson used to quip, a line Gutekunst has invoked directly.
